Monster Hunter Wilds tips and tricks
Here are our Monster Hunter Wilds tips and tricks to help defeat which creature crosses your path:
- Quests can time out - If you're taking too long on a quest, most likely to be when you're hunting a large monster, your quest will give you a warning that you’ll time out 10 minutes before you do.
- Turn on Arachnaphobia Setting - If you've got Aracnaphobia or really don't like Spiders, or anything with multiple legs, we advise turning this setting on as there are multiple monsters you’ll encounter that are very similar to these creatures.
- Use your Monster Field Guide - Granted, the entries aren't filled in until you first defeat a monster but the information in it is valuable, especially if you want to go after the same monster again. The field guide tells you its weaknesses, which elemental attacks to use and even what items it can drop.
- Wishlist armor and weapons - If you see a piece of armor/weaponry at the Smithy you want but you don't have the right materials yet, then add it to your wishlist. By doing this, you'll be notified when you're out in the field once you've collected the right or enough materials to craft it (it's a good way of passively keeping track of things).
- Listen to Gemma's recommendations - If you're getting stuck on a fight and you're not sure where you're lacking in the armor/weapon department then speak to Gemma at the Smithy to get recommendations based on your needs/current inventory.
- Visit the Ingredients Store - Whenever you return to base camp visit the Ingredients store (or the help desk at smaller camps) to collect your rations. These add up to creating helpful meals while out on quests.
- Draw monsters to one another - If you're in an area where multiple monsters are when you're hunting one, then you can lure your target monster towards another and they'll start fighting each other. This will give you a good chance to attack while it's distracted, heal, set up traps or just have a break. Be careful though, if you get the second monster’s attention you’re in trouble.

- Farm materials - The further you progress in the story the harder the monster hunts will become, so take some time between quests to explore and do side quests to hunt different monsters repeatedly. This will help you collect more materials to craft better armor and weapons, which you'll definitely need.
- Listen to Alma and Companions - During monster hunts they can point out when the target has dropped a valuable item or a piece of them that’s worth collecting has fallen off.
- Pay attention to notifications in fights - When you're hunting and you do something that's effective against a monster, for example using a Shock Trap, a notification will pop up telling you it worked well. Pay attention to these to get an idea of what a monster is weak to before it’s added to your Monster Field Guide.
- Harvest broken off parts - If a part of a monster breaks off during a fight and the monster moves to another area, don't forget to carve their broken-off piece first before following them because they also contain useful materials. Every bit counts.
- Use the environment in fights - Keep an eye on the world around you as you hunt large monsters, because there are a lot of areas that you can use your advantage. From luring a monster to the spot you know a large lightning bolt is due to hit, to pulling on some loose rocks to crush your target, the environment can be your biggest weapon.
- Preparation is key - Don't underestimate how important it is to prepare thoroughly for a hunt. This is a bit harder on story missions when you're not sure exactly what you’re going up against, but always upgrading your weapon and armor is a safe bet. Also, keep your pockets stocked with traps, potions and other healing items to be on the safe side.
- Finish the single player story missions to unlock best multiplayer access - There are lot of walls when it comes to multiplayer, a big one being that if you’re a low rank hunter and your friend is in the high rank portion of the game you cannot join them until you reach the high rank point too (after you roll credits on the main story).

Hope you're the hunter and not the hunted in Monster Hunter Wilds!
