How to switch to secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds
Including how to equip a secondary weapon.
Monster Hunter Wilds is the first game in the series that allows you to carry a secondary weapon while adventuring.
At first, this seems like a huge advantage, but you do have to keep in mind that you only get the choice of switching to a secondary weapon - there's no option for secondary equipment or skills in Monster Hunter Wilds. So, your secondary weapon will almost always be less effective than your main weapon during tougher hunts.
That said, there are some useful combinations. So if a secondary weapon sounds good to you, we've explained how to equip a secondary weapon, and how to switch to a secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds below.

How to equip a secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds
All you have to do to equip a secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds is speak to Gemma at any Smithy, tab over to the 'Equipment Menu', go into the 'Change Equipment' option, then select the 'Secondary' weapon bit, under your Primary weapon option. From here, you can equip whatever weapon type you want!

However, if you want more than the bog standard choices, then you'll need to craft weapons at the Smithy. And if you want them to hit even harder, you can also upgrade weapons at the Smithy too.
How to switch to secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds
Changing to a secondary weapon is easy in practice, but kind of hard to tell if you've done it while you're in the middle of a battle with a Large Monster.
To switch to a secondary weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, you first first have to mount your Seikret, then when on the Seikret, you have to press right on the D-pad if playing on a controller, or press the 'X' key if playing with a keyboard and mouse set up.
Alternatively, sometimes you can just press this button while not mounted, and it will automatically call your Seikret over, and immediately switch to your secondary weapon.

Your hunter will then switch to whatever weapon you have selected as your secondary choice. The only time this won't happen after you press the button to switch weapons is if you get hit during the swapping animation.
