Tips for defeating Ray Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some useful tips for defeating Ray Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Special attacks: Weak Roar and Thunderblight.
- Wear armor that's resistant to thunder, or gives you some protection from this element at least.
- Use water-based weapons or ice-based weapons as these are elements the Rey Dau is weak to.
- Don't bother with thunder-based weapons because the Rey Dau is resistant to them.
- Poison, Blastblight, Exhaust and Sleep status effects are good against the Rey Dau.
- Flash pods and Pitfall traps are effective, but don't bother with Sonic Bombs or Shock Traps - they will not work.
- Lure Rey Dau to other monsters in the area - While the Rey Dau is defending its territory, you can either heal or get in a few good attacks when it's distracted.
- Get Ray Dau into an open area - If you're caught in a small area, say in a valley in Windward Plains, when fighting the Rey Dau then you're probably going to be in trouble. Fighting the Rey Dau and dodging its incoming attacks is far easier in an open area where you can watch where it's flown off to and you can anticipate its next move.
- Use the environment around you - Make sure you use the environment around you, such as causing a rock collapse on top of the Rey Dau.
- Stop to make meals - If the Rey Dau moves off into another area, and it's safe to do so, then feel free to stop for a moment to grill yourself a meal to get some much needed boosts for the next portion of your hunt.

Monster Hunter Wilds Rey Dau Weak Points
The Rey Dau's weakest points are its head, wings and tail. This means you've got multiple weak points and breakable areas to focus on when fighting this flying wyvern. The chest and legs are viable options to attack, but if you focus on the weaker areas the fight will be over faster.
Also, the head and both Rey Dau wings are breakable. Breaking these parts will not only hurt the monster, but will also limit some of their more dangerous attacks. The tail is severable too.

We recommend aiming for the tail and wings first if you can because this is how the creature charges up for its next attack. Breaking these areas, or severing the tail, will limit how much charge it can use.
We found it was useful to attack the very edge of the wings too as it made it faster and easier to break the wings themselves.
Also, the head area becomes vulnerable after it uses a more powerful lightning-based attack called a discharge attack and you can use Focus Mode to target it's weakest spot if you're fast enough. We recommend doing so, and attacking the head, when it's safe to do so.
Monster Hunter Wilds Rey Dau Attacks
When in the air the Rey Dau will target you and then fly at you with its wing facing downwards, almost as if it was trying to slice the ground. If this hits you, it's going to hurt so as soon as you see the Rey Dau heading towards you with one wing pointing to the floor you need to dodge out of the way. You can try to land attacks on the wing as it nears you, but it's risky.
The discharge attack is the attack we mentioned in the weak point portion above and it leaves the head very vulnerable for a few seconds. The Rey Dau will duck its head and its horns will cover its face in a triangle shape, the expel a large lightning bolt from the tip of the triangle. As soon as you see the shape form on its face, make sure you're not standing anywhere near the face or directly in front of it - the bolt can cover a surprisingly large area.

Once the attack is over, however, the Ray Dau will briefly be still and the face will be open and vulnerable. At this point, use Focus Mode to attack it to deal significant damage.

Another attack to watch out for is when the Rey Dau flies up into the air then circles back to you. It will then try to slam into you on the ground with its entire body. The general rule is that if you see the Rey Dau go into the air, keep an eye on where it's going and as soon as it heads for the ground you need to dodge out of the way. The monster's wings will be exposed briefly after this slam attack, so it's a good opportunity to land more attacks on them.
One more to watch out for is when the Rey Dau is in the air and is hovering in a single spot. Soon after they begin hovering, the triangle shape will form on their face again (like with the discharge attack) and will shoot a large bolt at you. Again, as soon as you see this shape forming, dodge out of the way.
Also, when you're on the ground with the Rey Dau watch out for it to swoop its wings down to try to slam them into you.

Monster Hunter Wilds Rey Dau Locations
Rey Dau is the apex predator that rules over Windward Plains in Monster Hunter Wilds. You're likely to first get a glimpse of them when you're battling Alpha Doshaguma, but you will officially meet and hunt them during the 'The Eye of the Storm' main story quest in Chapter Two. During this fight, you can simply follow the scoutflies to track it as it moves.
After you've defeated them once, you'll need to wait for Rey Dau to re-appear in Windward Plains if you want to hunt them again. You'll know they're around because, while you're in the region, a notification will pop up on the right side of your screen letting you know that 'Rey Dau has entered the locale'. Once you see this, we recommend going after them right away because they don't stick around for very long.
To make tracking them easier, create a quest for yourself around hunting the Rey Dau and you'll then be able to follow scoutflies to its location and wherever it decides to move to during the hunt.
Should you capture or kill Rey Dau in Monster hunter Wilds?
The answer to this is subjective, killing or capturing the Rey Dau really depends on your current needs in Monster Hunter Wilds. If you're looking to get a specific piece or armor or weaponry that's connected to the materials you harvest from a Rey Dau, then you should ideally kill it. However, if you're needs are different, then you should capture it - it's entirely down to what you need to do next.
