As this is a high rank material in Monster Hunter Wilds you'll need to reach Chapter 4 of the main story and then complete the first mission here to unlock the high rank portion of the game. Gathering this material is not possible before this point.

How to get Bird Wyvern Gem in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds you can get Bird Wyvern Gem from Yian Kut-Ku or Gypceros at high rank. If you look for these monsters, or indeed this material, before you reach high rank then you won't find them.

High rank unlocks after you complete the first mission of Chapter 4 called 'New Ecosystems', and in this mission you'll be introduced to Yian Kut-Ku so this is your first opportunity to collect a Bird Wyvern Gem.

Yian Kut-Ku can be found in Scarlet Forest and Iceshard Cliffs. Their weak point is their mouth, but their head is also breakable - so the big thing to remember is to aim for the face if you want to inflict a lot of damage quickly. It's worth remembering that Yian Kut-Ku is weak Water, Ice and Thunder-based elemental attacks, so using any or of these three elemental types when attacking the monster will significantly hurt it.

Gypceros can be found in Windward Plains, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs and the Ruins of Wyveria. Their weak point is its head, but remember to aim for the crest on top of its head to break it twice and remove its ability to use its disorienting Flash attack. Gypceros is weak to Fire and Ice-based elemental atacks, so using these types of attacks against the monster will hurt it.
