Tips for defeating Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some handy tips to help you beat Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Special Attacks: Weak Roar, Wind Pressure, Dragonblight.
- Use dragon element weapons - Any weapons that have the dragon elemental effect on them will hurt Arkveld as they're weak to this element.
- Stock up on Dragon Pods for your Slinger - Dragon Pods really hurt Arkveld, so having these in your inventory to throw at them from a distance with your Slinger is advisable.
- Use Dragon Ammo - If you're using a weapon compatible with this, then Dragon Ammo will significantly hurt Arkveld.
- Stock up on Nulberry - Nulberry can counteract the effects of Dragonblight, so having plenty in your pockets will help you out.
- Evade repeatedly to clear Dragonblight - If you're inflicted with Dragonblight and don't have a Nulberry to hand, then evading repeatedly will clear it.
- Poison, Paralysis, Sleep, Blastblight and Stun status effects all work - Any of these status effects will have an impact on Arkveld, but don't bother with Exhaust because that has no effect.
- Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap and Flash Pods are effective - We highly recommend using Flash Pods to blind and confuse Arkveld during the fight, which will give you much needed time to heal or set up a Shock Trap which will briefly immobilise them.

- Use your Seikret - Arkveld's attacks have a wide area of impact and happen quickly. We found it best to use the Seikret as much as possible to speedily evade incoming attacks and get away from Arkveld when needed.
- Look for Slinger ammo - Look for Slinger ammuntion and materials in the environment around you, often in areas where Arkveld is you can pick up items to make Dragon Pods like Wyrmsbane or Heavy Slicing Pods.
- Use the enviroment - Things like Great Thunderbugs, naturally occuring traps and Sporepuffs will all give you a helping hand when facing such a dangerous monster. Try to use everything on hand to make the fight easier.
- Stop to make meals as needed - If you find that your Hunter needs a boost to continue the fight, and it's safe to do so, then stop to make a meal. Just keep an eye on the timer before you decide to do this though.
- Stock up on Health Potions of all kinds - Arkveld is a tough fight, so keep your pockets filled with all kinds of healing items and potions that you can find.
- Lure Arkveld to other monsters - Wyveria isn't short of a few dangerous monsters, if you can get one to pay attention to Arkveld then you can sit back and relax for a second. You can use this time to heal, set up a trap, or get in a few precise attacks of your own - just don't hit the other monster!
- Destroy its wounds - You'll only have a short window for this when Arkveld has a wound, as they heal quite fast. As soon as a wound appears, use Focus Mode to destroy it and inflict substantial damage on the monster.
Monster Hunter Wilds Arkveld Weak Points
Arkveld's weakest point are its Chainblades that are attached to its wings. These are the long tentacle-like things that Arkveld often attacks you with - they're big and long, which makes them dangerous but an extremely good target. They're also breakable.
On top of this, Arkveld's tail is severable (which we recommend doing if you can, it removes one of many attacks you need to watch out for) and its head is breakable.

Be warned, the Chainblades are immune to any type of elemental damage. If you're going to attack with anything elemental then focus on the head, body, tail, and legs of the monster.
However, the Chainblades are extremely vulnerable to any and all melee attacks - more so than the rest of the beast, so you've got plenty of attack options to choose from.
Monster Hunter Wild Arkveld Attacks
Arkveld has a series of highly damaging and dangerous attacks, some of which evolve as you do more damage to the monster. Also, the further into your fight with this monster you get the more their attacks will begin to evolve - which is useful for knowing how much longer you've got left until you beat them, but only if you manage to stay alive.
Once of Arkveld's attack is to run and charge at you with its shoulders angled downwards. Despite it being a large monster, Arkveld is surprisingly quick on their feet so they can cross the area to get you in a few seconds. If you see Arkveld lean down and slightly tilt their body towards you, then make sure you're doing everything you can to get out of their way. We found that calling your Seikret and using them as a mount was the easiest way of avoiding this attack.
Arkveld's unique wings pose a threat to event the most seasoned Hunter. They'll extend their Chainblades to try to catch you and either swipe it at you or knock you down with it. However, attacking these long portions of the wings will help you chip away at Arkveld's help, so if you're careful you can use this attack your advantage.

Another attack to watch out for is a ground slam attack, that can easily knock your Hunter flying and carve out a chunk of their health if you're not careful. When Arkveld hits the ground, they'll send out energy around them which will damage anything caught in its path. To avoid this attack, watch for the monster to lift up slightly. As soon as you see this, get as far away from them as possible.
Speaking of slam attacks, another variation to watch out for is when Arkveld slams into the ground, extends its Chainblades in front of it and then they create a small AOE (area of effect) explosion around them. Again, the extension of the wings provides a good opportunity for you to attack them but remember to avoid getting caught in the AOE attack - this can take a lot of health away in a few seconds.
If the above wasn't bad enough then how about an attack that behaves in the same way but instea of effecting a small area, it effects a large portion of the surrounding area. At this point, we recommend ditching your attack strategy and just scrambling to get to the edge of the attack area, as far away from Arkveld as possible.
Also, watch out for Arkveld's tail. Behind the monster might seem like the safest spot to head to, and sometimes it is if they don't know you're there - but if they lift their tail up then get out of there, fast. If Arkveld catches you by swishing their tail or slamming it down, you're going to be flattened. You can limit this attack by severing the tail.

One attack to keep an eye out for is when Arkveld extends all of the long part of its Chainblades out in front of it. If you're not caught by them, then this is an opportune moment to strike because they'll be vulnerable for a few seconds. While extended, enter Focus Mode to attack them and inflict a solid amount of damage on them.
Once you've dealt enough damage to Arkveld, the monster gets quite unhappy with you and their attacks evolve. As well as recyling the attacks listed above, most of them will come with Dragonblight now too which can easily end your Hunter's crusade.
In particular, the slam, reach, and AOE attacks all come with Dragonblight that has a far reach or instantly explodes out when it touches the ground. Just remember, if it's red you're dead - so don't touch it.

Monster Hunter Wilds Arkveld Locations
Arkveld can be found in Wyveria. Your first encounter with this monster will be during 'The Faithful Keepers' quest in Chapter Three but your first official fight with them won't be until the 'Broken Chains' quest at the end of Chapter Three. During your first hunt of this creature your scoutflies will automatically track it for you, making it easy for you to find them as they move around.
Once you've beaten them as part of this quest, you'll need to finish the rest of Chapter Three and wait for Arkveld to spawnn again if you want to hunt them again. When you're in the region, a pop up will appear on the right side of the screen that says 'Arkveld has appeared' - which is the signal you can hunt them again.
We recommend making a quest for hunting Arkveld, that way you can use scoutflies to track its location and follow it around easily as it moves from area to area.
Should you capture or kill Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Capturing or killing Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds will depend entirely on what your current needs are. If you're after specific materials that can only be harvested from an Arkveld carcass, then you'll need to kill them. However, if your needs differ then you can alway capture them instead.
Keep in mind that during your first hunt with them during the story you won't get a choice - you have to kill them.
