Monster Hunter Wilds Village of Whispering Winds walkthrough
Hunting your first Quematrice.
Village of Whispering Winds is the second mission in Chapter One of Monster Hunter Wilds and gets the story going by introducing you to the locals.
Though it wouldn't be a Monster Hunter Wilds mission if there wasn't a monster to hunt and this time round you'll be facing the Quematrice. It's one angry chicken and, even worse, it has the power of fire on its side. Completing this quest will let you journey further in Forest Findings.
Below you'll find our Village of Whispering Winds walkthrough for Monster Hunter Wilds where we'll take you through what this mission involves.

Monster Hunter Wilds Village of Whispering Winds walkthrough
Village of Whispering Winds begins with you following Y'sai. Don't worry about telling your Seikret where to go through as it will follow him automatically. Instead, you can take the time to collect some useful items along the journey. It's definitely worth doing when you consider one of Wilds' most useful mechanics, auto-crafting.
Auto-crafting does exactly what it says on the tin - automatically creates items, like Potions, when you collect enough materials out in the wild. Even when battling a monster! It's incredibly useful if you want to quickly stock up on a particular item of ammo or support item. You can decide which items you wish to auto-craft by visiting the Crafting List either in your tent or from the menu. Simply turn auto-crafting on or off for each specific item (some will be automatically turned on from the beginning of Wilds). We recommend not having them all turned on as this will easily eat through your materials and not supply you with the items you need. Instead, focus on the ones which work for your current build or the monster you're hunting down.
Going back to the mission at hand, you can also complete optional objective of observing three groups of monsters when it appears. Doing so does involve taking some control of your Seikret and you'll know when you're in the right place as a button command will appear.
Before you visit the village, however, Y'sai will take you to a place where you can gather honey for Provisions. At this point, you'll most likely want to jump off your Seikret and quickly collect the honey by hand. When you're done, it's Seikret time once again and this time you'll definitely head to the village.

With the Seikrets gone, it's time to head back to base camp on foot. Along the way, you'll be attacked by a group of Bulaqchi. These monsters shouldn't cause you much trouble and you only need to kill seven. If you do find yourself becoming overwhelmed, however, then it's worth moving around the area and attempting to pick them off one-by-one.

With the Bulaqchi dealt with, take the time to gather up some items from their corpses before returning to base camp. Once there, talk to Jack at Provisions and give him the honey. You'll now have access to his store where you can buy and sell useful items for your hunts. You also need to have a quick chat with Gemma, who will give you two Iron Ore, to unlock the ability to craft weapons and upgrade them. (Well technically you've had that for a while, just not really the materials to do any weapon crafting or upgrading.)
We recommend taking the time to upgrade your weapon and forge new armor if you can before heading over to talk to Alma. Though you may want to stop by your tent first!

Looks like there's a problem out in the wilds! Do the button prompt to send out your Scoutflies and follow them to the location in question. It's now time to hunt your first Quematrice! If you need help defeating this fiery chicken, check out our how to beat the Quematrice guide. You can also try to complete the optional objectives: 'Use a Paratoad' and 'Use a Vine Trap'. If you don't have these items already, then you can find them in the environment surrounding you. Take the time if you like to hunt them down, but just remember - quests (monster hunts) do have a time limit! The Paratoads are particularly useful since they can temporarily paralyze the Quematrice - search along the riverbank to find them.
Outside of the environmental items, the Quematrice is particularly vulnerable to Water elemental attacks and we recommend breaking off its tail. While this can be quite tricky to do, it will make the Quematrice easier to defeat in the long run.

With the Quematrice defeated, you'll return to camp and Y'sai will give you a Seikret. This also means you'll now be able to switch between your primary and secondary weapon. This is done by riding your Seikret and pressing the correct button prompt determined by the platform you're playing Monster Hunter Wilds on. You'll also need to make sure you've assigned yourself a secondary weapon and the correct one for your playstyle at that. If you haven't tested out the weapons now is the time to do so, you can also check out our best weapon tier list to get some ideas on what will be the best secondary weapon for you.
It's now time to talk to some more people at camp, so let's do a quick run down:
- Tom at the Ingredient Center - Unlocks the Ingredient Center, where you can get provisions (the game will tell you when your next batch is available), and the ability to cook meals using the Portable BBQ Grill. Meals can provide health and useful buffs depending on the ingredient you use. Visit our best meals guide for ideas on what to cook!
- Ferdinand the Researcher - Unlocks the Monster Field Guide where you'll find all of the information you need on the monsters you slay. This includes large and small monsters with details on the items they drop, their weak spots and more. Perfect for whenever you're crafting new armor or weapons and need to know who to kill!
- Nata - An optional conversation.

It's now time to talk to Y'sai, but you may want to have a quick, optional, chat with Alma first. You can also take a quick look at the Quest Counter when talking to Alma.
Back to Y'sai - talking to him will lead to another Seikret journey to his village. There you'll need to talk to Elder Ela and the woman tending a fire before heading to Y'sai's house for dinner. (This cutscene made me so hungry. The food looks so good!) You can access the Quest Counter by selecting '(Open the Quest Board)' when talking to Alma or within your tent. It allows you to both post quests for other players or join ones they've posted. There's a range of quests available to you, such as Assignments you might have failed, Optional Quests for monsters you've already defeated once, Event Quests (often time-limited), Lobby Member Quests, Link Member Quests and SOS Flare Quests. It's the perfect place to go if you're looking to hunt some monsters with or without friends.

Village of Whispering Winds will complete after this cutscene. You'll receive one Kunafa Cheese, three Earth Crystals, five Godbug Essence, 20 Guild Points, the Seikret Rear Up gesture and the Tend to Seikret gesture (including a variation).
Gestures can be added to your Radial Menus (there's already a pre-set loadout for them called 'Communications') and can be used to, well, communicate with other players when playing online. You'll unlock a range of different gestures and other ways of communicating with players, such as Stickers, so have a play around to find which ones you like.
It's now time to complete the next mission - Forest Findings! Before you head out, however, we highly recommend crafting some new armor and upgrading your weapon. (I was wearing the full Chatacabra set before heading out.) Best to be prepared before you venture into a monster infested forest after all.
Best of luck in Monster Hunter Wilds!
