Tips for defeating Guardian Ebony Odogaron in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some useful tips for beating Guardian Ebony Odogaron:
- Special Attacks: Weak Roar, Dragonblight, Bleeding.
- Use Water-based elemental weapons - Guardian Ebony Odogaron is weak to Water elemental attacks.
- Use Water Ammo - If you've got a compatible weapon, using Water Ammo will help you inflict a lot of damage on the monster.
- Stock up on Puddle Pod - Using this water-based item in your Slinger will also do a fair bit of damage to the monster.
- Stock up on Nulberry - Nulberry can counter the effects of Dragonblight.
- Evade repeatedly for Dragonblight - If you run out of Nulberry, then evading repeatedly will also counter the effects of Dragonblight.
- Well-done Steak, Rare Steak, Immunizer, Wild Jerky, and Ration counter Bleeding - Keeping at least a few of these items in your pockets is a good idea as consuming them will counter the effect of Bleeding.
- Stand still to counter Bleeding - Though it's risky, standing still for a moment can also remove the Bleeding effect on your Hunter.
- Paralysis is the best status effect - Out of all the available status effects, Paralysis works best on Ebony Odogaron.
- Sleep, Poison, Blastblight and Stun are good back ups - Though not as strong as Paralysis, these status effects are viable alternatives.
- Flash Pods, Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps all work - We recommend using Flash Pods to disorient the monster and give yourself some time to breathe. Also, we found a Shock Trap gave us time to heal any status effects inflicted on the Hunter, or to simply get in a few hard hits on the monster.

- Destroy open wounds - As with any other monster you've fought, targeting and destroying the open wounds of Guardian Ebony Odogaron will significantly hurt them. We recommend doing this for every wound you see.
- Lure to other monsters - If there are any around when you're hunting them, then lure Guardian Ebony Odogaron into the path of other monsters. Once they spot each other, they'll engage in a fight and that's when you need to get out of the way. At this point you can heal, plan your next attack or trap, and even get in a few hits on the target yourself. Just make sure the other monster doesn't see you, or that you don't hit it.
- Stock up on Health Potions - You should be used to this by now, but the more Health Potions you've got the better your chances of surviving the fight will be.
- Have a meal - If you've noticed your Hunter needs a boost, and you've got time, then grill a meal when it's safe to do so (usually when the target has changed areas) to give yourself a better chance in the next part of the fight.
- Use the environment - If there are traps you can trigger or things like loose boulders you can bring down onto your target then use them, Guardian Ebony Odogaron is fast and strong so anything that can help you win is a bonus.
Monster Hunter Wilds Guardian Ebony Odogaron Weak Points
Guardian Ebony Odogaron's weak points are its Forelegs and Tail.
It's Tail Tip, Head, Forelegs, and Hind Legs are all breakable. On top of this, the tail is also severable.

We highly recommend attacking the Forelegs and Tail first - doing this will inflict a lot of damage on Guardian Ebony Odogaron and it will limit some of their attacks.
Also, the head of Guardian Ebony Odogaron can be broken twice. The first time, it will stop being able to inflict Dragonblight then inflict severe damage on the beast, and then the second time it will inflict even more damage on them.
We recommend staying away from attacking the main body area, there are multiple more effective areas to target on this beast so focus on those if you can.
Monster Hunter Wilds Guardian Ebony Odogaron Attacks
One attack to watch out for is for Ebony Odogaron to leap across the battle area towards you and then as it lands, it slams its claws into the ground which causes a small explosion that creates crystals. If you're caught by the claws, you're likely to get hit with the 'Bleeding' effect and then if you're caught in the explosion your Hunter will be in even more trouble. The best way to avoid getting hit by this is to move away from where you're standing the second you see Ebony Odogaron leap into the air. Also, when it lands, if it does land close to you, get as far from it as you can.
It can also use this attack without leaping towards you, in this case make sure you watch for it to raise its front claw as this is the warning sign you need to get away quickly.

Guardian Ebony Odogaron will also dash forwards towards you and snap at you with its jaws. Once you see that the monster has locked onto you, make sure you're ready to dodge out of the way once it faces towards you to avoid getting caught in its jaws.
Another one to watch out for is for Guardian Ebony Odogaron to ignite any of the crystals in the surrounding area by snapping at them with its jaws, because the jaws can inflict Dragonblight (an elemental attack that can trigger crystals). If you're near any of the crystals when they ignite, you'll lose a chunk of health. However, you can use the crystals to your advantage if you've got any elemental ammunition in your Slinger.

There will also be times that Guardian Ebony Odogaron will just reach out and swipe its front claws at you without causing a crystal explosion.
Watch out for its tail too, if you're standing behind it and it knows you're there then Ebony Odogaron will swipe its tail at you, which can easily knock you down for a moment as well as taking away a chunk of health. On top of this, their tails can cause explosions too - so if you're attacking the tail just make sure you're keeping an eye on its movements and you dodge when necessary.

Guardian Ebony Odogaron is native to Wyveria. Your first encounter with this beast will be during the 'Full Circle' story quest in Chapter Three. During this quest, your scoutflies will automatically track the beast as it moves around so all you need to do in this instance is follow them.
After you've beaten them in the story, you'll need to wait for Guardian Ebony Odogaron to spawn again if you want to go after them. When you're in the region, you'll get a pop up on the side of your screen that says 'Guardian Ebony Odogaron has appeared' which indicates the monster is available to hunt.
When you go after this monster we recommend creating a quest, this way you can use your scoutflies to track down its location and follow it as it moves from area to area.

Should you capture or kill Guardian Ebony Odogaron in Monster Hunter Wilds?
You have to kill Guardian Ebony Odogaron on your first encounter with them, you won't have the choice to capture them at that moment. However, after your intial showdown with the beast, you can choose to capture or kill it when it respawns. The choice is ultimately up to you, killing it will be more viable if you're after specific materials that can only be gotten through harvesting the carcass but if your needs allow it then capturing could be the way to go.
