Nerscylla is a Large Monster you first come across while playing through the 'Hopes of Home' Chapter 2 main mission in Monster Hunter Wilds, and it's also one that you can hunt repeatedly after you've defeated it for the first time.

This spider-like monster likes to use Poison, Sleep, and Webbed attacks, so it can be a tricky monster to hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds if you don't keep your distance, or evade at the right moment. Attacking with the right element at the right moment, is essential to taking down Nerscylla quickly if you want to avoid these status effects.

Below, our Monster Hunter Wilds Nerscylla guide can help you beat Nerscylla with tips, weak points, and attack info. We've also detailed Nerscylla locations, and harvest materials and items to help you completely plan for the hunt ahead.

Tips for defeating Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds

Here are some handy tips for defeating Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • When wearing Gypceros hides, Nerscylla is vulnerable to Fire elemental attacks, but resistant to Thunder.
  • When Gypceros hides are destroyed, this reverses, and Nerscylla is now vulnerable to Thunder elemental attacks, but resistant to Fire.
  • Thunder is more effective once Nerscylla's Mantle is broken.
  • Nerscylla's weak points are Pincer, Stinger, Mantle, and Left Claw.
  • Even if you can't use Thunder or Fire, don't use the Water or Dragon elements on Nerscylla, as its resistant to these.
  • Nerscylla is greatly affected by Paralysis. This can be inflicted with items on hand, and sometimes by using items found in the environment.
  • Although not as effective as Paralysis, Nerscylla is also affected by Poison, Blastblight, Stun, and Exhaust.
  • Pitfall Traps, Shock Traps, and Flash Pods are also effective on the Nerscylla.
  • Equip Poison, Sleep, and Webbed Resistant armor if you can.
  • Bring Antidote, Herbal Medicine, and Herbal Powder to use if you get Poisoned.
  • Bring Energy Drink to use if you get put to Sleep.
  • Bring Cleanser to use if you get Webbed. Moving, pressing buttons, or taking a hit can also dispel the Webbed status effect.
  • Watch out for the baby spiders that activate later in the fight. They can hurt you, and interrupt the flow of your attacks while doing so.
  • Nerscylla is open for attack when it uses its slower web sac move.
  • Target Nerscylla's Pincer after it uses its Pincer clamp move, as the Pincer (and Nerscylla) stay still for a short while after Nerscylla uses this attack.
  • Use the environment to your advantage - Make use of things like Sleeptoad and Flashflies to inflict a status effect on Nerscylla, then unleash your strongest attacks when it's incapacitated.

Monster Hunter Wilds Nerscylla weak points

To beat Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds you should focus on attacking it's four weakest points and use Fire and Thunder elemental attacks if you can. Fire is effective, but Thunder is ineffective, when Nerscylla is wearing Gypceros hides. This is reversed when the hides are destroyed, and Thunder is the effective element, while Fire is useless.

The Nerscylla's four weak spots are: Pincer, Stinger, Mantle, and Left Claw. Its Pincer is a general weakpoint, and its Stinger, Mantle, and Left Claw are all breakable. Using attacks imbued with the correct element on these spots is the best way to deal with Nerscylla quickly.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Nerscylla is resistant to Water and Dragon, so don't use attacks imbued with the Water or Dragon element on it!

Monster Hunter Wilds Nerscylla attacks

The main Nerscylla attacks you want to avoid are its Pincer clamp, web sacs, and claw swipe and stinger combo. Later on, Nerscylla also deploys some small spiders to attack you. We recommend taking care of these spiders as soon as possible, so they don't get in your way.

Nerscylla's can throw its web sacs in a slow manoeuver, spit them out like bullets, or drop them from the ceiling. So keep an eye out for them at all times, and be prepared to evade quickly, or you'll get Webbed. If you do get Webbed, you can use Cleanser to remove the effect, or move, press buttons, or take a hit to clear it as well.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Nerscylla is open for attack when it uses its slower web sac move. So if quick enough after it uses this move, you can inflict some easy extra damage here.

The Pincer clamp move can hurt a lot, but it's actually very handy for you, as you can target Nerscylla's Pincer after it uses the move, because the Pincer (and Nerscylla) stay still for a short while after.

Nerscylla's claw swipe and stinger combo is a double whammy of damage, so keep evading after every claw swipe, just in case this is one of the times that Nerscylla lunges with its stinger after.

Later on in the fight, Nerscylla can also use a speedy web swing move on you, and a body slam. Both can inflict a lot of damage, so we recommend running away, or evading, as soon as you see Nerscylla amping up for one of these attacks.

Although not as deadly, Nerscylla can also use a speedy running attack, and regular claw swipe at any time during the hunt.

Remember, when Nerscylla has taken enough damage, it will flail on its back. This is the time to use your most powerful attacks on it, while Nerscylla can't fight back!

Lastly, remember to make use of things like Sleeptoad and Flashflies in the environment to inflict a status effect on Nerscylla, then unleash your strongest attacks when it's incapacitated.

During your initial encounter with Nerscylla as part of the 'Hopes of Home' main quest, you can simply follow your scoutflies to find their next location and look for the monster icon on your map.

Nerscylla can be found in the Basin, Cliffs, and Wyveria regions in Monster Hunter Wilds. When you're in one of these regions, you'll be notified by a small pop up on the right side of the screen when the Nerscylla is available, and you can also check the Environment Overview map to see if a Nerscylla is available to hunt. To make tracking it easier, set up a quest to hunt the Nerscylla in order to follow scoutflies to its location.

Should you capture or kill Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Wilds?

If you're looking to harvest specific materials for new armor pieces or weapons, then you should kill a Nerscylla. However, if you need one for other things, then you should try to catch it. In short, the answer is subjective depending on your current needs surrounding the monster.
