This rooster-like monster in Monster Hunter Wilds likes to swing its big tail to try and knock you down, but this swing can also ignite the flammable substance it creates and inflict Fireblight - so you need to pay close attention to its tail at all times during the hunt!

Tips for defeating Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some handy tips for defeating Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Quematrice are vulnerable to Water elemental attacks, and attacking its weak points (Head, Neck, and Tail) is the most effective damage you can do.
- Quematrice are also affected by Poison and Paralysis status effects, which you can inflict with items on hand, or by using items found in the environment.
- Pitfall Traps, Shock Traps and Flash Pods are also effective on the Quematrice.
- Bring Nulberry (and use Fire Resistance and Blight Resistance equipment and items if possible) - The Quematrice's Fireblight special attack causes your health to temporarily deplete. Using a Nulberry will dispel Fireblight.
- You can also dodge repeatedly to remove the Fireblight status.
- Avoid their tail - The Quematrice's tail is its deadliest weapon, as it can stun you, and inflict the Fireblight status effect if you get caught in its fire attack. So if you see the Quematrice stop for a few seconds and wiggle its tail, or raise its tail in the air, then run away or dodge to avoid the attack!

Monster Hunter Wilds Quematrice weak points
To beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds you should focus on attacking it's three weakest points and use Water elemental attacks if you can.
The Quematrice's three weak spots are: Tail, Neck, and Head. Its Neck is a general weakpoint, its Head is breakable, and its Tail is breakable and severable. Using attacks imbued with the Water element on these spots is the best way to deal with the Quematrice quickly.

Its a good idea to focus on the Quematrice's tail, if you're confident enough to attack it from behind, as hurting its tail limits the damage that the Quematrice can do to you. Breaking its head is highly recommended too, and depending on what weapon you're using, this can also hurt its Neck weak point.
When you cause enough damage, the Quematrice will be incapacitated for a short while and fall on its side. During this time, use your most powerful and effective attacks to inflict as much damage on the Quematrice as possible.
Monster Hunter Wilds Quematrice attacks
The main Quematrice attack you want to avoid is its tail swing. The Quematrice will stop for a few seconds and either sway their tail slightly, or raise their tail in the air, to indicate that they're about to swing it. When this happens, get away from the Quematrice's tail!
The Quematrice's tail can knock you to the ground, and can also set fire to a flammable substance that the Quematrice spreads beforehand, making for quite the one-two punch if you're unlucky enough to be in the tail's vicinity at the time.
If you do get hit by the fire, you'll gain the Fireblight status effect, which causes your health to temporarily deplete. Using a Nulberry, or repeatedly dodging, will dispel Fireblight.

The Quematrice can hit you with its tail whether you're standing in front of it, or behind it, but you're more likely to get hit if you're attacking the Quematrice from behind.
The other attacks the Quematrice uses are pretty basic: a head peck and a forward lunge. This means you're not really safe anywhere around the Quematrice, unless you're attacking from a distance. So, if you're attacking near the Quematrice, you're going to have to get used to dodging a lot! Especially if you see that tail about to swing.
