Powerful Potential is the opening event for the Might and Mastery Season in Pokemon Go.
While Powerful Potential has its own Timed Research quest and event-exclusive research tasks, it also marks the release of the Might and Mastery Special Research quest in Pokémon Go. This is the new seasonal research quest and gives you the chance to add a Kubfu to your Pokédex.
So let's take a look at the Powerful Potential event, including the NAME quest steps and Powerful Potential bonuses in Pokémon Go.

'Powerful Potential Timed Research' quest steps in Pokémon Go
Powerful Potential is the Timed Research quest for the Powerful Potential event in Pokémon Go. This means you only have until Monday 10th March at 8pm to complete it.
Missing this deadline locks you out of earning the quest's rewards as usual, but also prevents you from benefiting from the increase of the Powerful Potential event's bonus - from halving the hatch distance of any egg placed in an Incubator to quartering it. Perfect for anyone trying to get through their egg backlog during Powerful Potential!

So let's take a look at all of the Powerful Potential Timed Research quest steps and rewards in Pokémon Go:

Everything we know about Powerful Potential in Pokémon Go
Powerful Potential is running until Monday 10th March at 8pm (local time) in Pokémon Go. The main attraction of the event is the release of the Might and Mastery Special Research quest. This is the latest seasonal research quest, meaning it will be released in stages throughout the Might and Mastery Season, and will only be available in-game until Tuesday 3rd June at 9:59am (local time). Though, once it's unlocked, you can complete Might and Mastery Special Research at its own pace.
Why is Might and Mastery Special Research such a big deal? Well it's how you'll obtain Kubfu, the legendary Wushu Pokémon, from Gen 8. The Kubfu you obtain will have the ability to Dynamax and, when it comes to evolution, you'll have to choose between the Single Strike or Rapid Strike Urshifu. That's right, Kubfu's evolution has two different forms.
If you'd like to learn more about this quest, check out our Might and Mastery Special Research quest steps guide.

Now let's take a look at the Powerful Potential bonuses and there's one. Kind of. Any egg you place in an egg during the event hours will have its hatch distance halved. Yet, if you complete the event's Timed Research quest (find it at the beginning of this guide), this bonus will be increased to the hatch distance being quartered.
We highly recommend completing the Timed Research quest to increase this bonus, because Powerful Potential sees Charcadet being made available in 2km, 5km, 7km and 10km eggs. Who knows, you might even find a shiny Charcadet. Don't get too excited though… Shiny Charcadet is awful.
Here are the Pokémon appearing in raids throughout Powerful Potential:
One Star | Three Star | Five Star | Mega |
---|---|---|---|
Gothita | Alolan Raichu | Articuno | Mega Lucario |
Solosis | Hisuian Typhlosion | Zapdos | |
Sinistea | Sableye | Moltres |
Make sure you grab a Sinistea or two since it's finally back in one-star raids!

You'll also be able to battle these Pokémon in Max Battles throughout Powerful Potential:
One Star | Six Star |
---|---|
Dynamax Grookey | Gigantamax Venusaur |
Dynamax Scorbunny | Gigantamax Charizard |
Dynamax Sobble | Gigantamax Blastoise |
Finally, there's a pay-to-play Timed Research targeted towards anyone who wants both Urshifu forms in Pokémon Go. For £7.99, $8 or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency, you can purchase another Special Research quest which will award you with a Kubfu. Just keep in mind that this quest will only be on sale until Monday 10th March at 8pm (local time). It's also nonrefundable and can not be bought using PokéCoins. You can, however, give it to players you're Great Friends or higher with.
Hope you enjoy the Powerful Potential event in Pokémon Go!
