Feature | Surviving a Disco Elysium LARP
Recreating Revachol.
Have you ever had to admit to your boss that your gun got stolen because you were distracted writing poetry with your former childhood friends at the local discotheque? Sounds like a really bad day at work, right? It was actually an incredible scene I got to play in the Disco Elysium-inspired LARP, 97 Poets of Revachol, last September.

Feature | I hate that Monster Hunter Wilds' coolest Palico armour is the product of its grossest monster
Romp-opoling through the undergrowth.
The Rompopolo. Sounds like a bouncy, round little chicken creature or something, doesn't it? It's a wonderful word to roll off the tongue - assonance abounds in every syllable, and the cute, repeated plosive of 'poh poh' at the end almost has a children's cartoon character-flavour to it, like Pokémon's seal starter Popplio, for example, or Studio Ghibli's Totoro.

PSA: You can change your Monster Hunter Wilds character once for free before Capcom makes you pay up
Just putting it on your Rey Dau.
Monster Hunter Wilds is doing alright for itself, having smashed the 1m concurrent players barrier on Steam. And if you're one of the many players who've doubtless nipped back into the character editor because you've somehow made a hunter that looks like potato with a moustache, you might appreciate knowing you can actually modify your character once for free before Capcom makes you cough up some cash.

Digital Foundry | Monster Hunter Wilds - we can't recommend the PC version
Substantial technical problems must be addressed.
Monster Hunter Wilds makes for a confusing PC release, with staggeringly poor performance on lower-end graphics cards - to the extent that we don't recommend the game at all on these systems - and relatively meagre visual rewards given the performance requirements. That's a harsh assessment, but it's unfortunately a justified one based on the profound performance problems here that must be addressed.

Wishlisted | PUBG: Blindspot may be a shameless Rainbow Six Siege clone, but that doesn't stop it being extremely fun
Not so blue zone.
PUBG: Blindspot, the first proper PUBG spin-off, is a bit of an oddity. Despite the Steam page for its Next Fest demo saying the game was "inspired by PUBG: Battlegrounds", and has a dinky little PUBG sticker above its logo to prove it's part of the wider PUBG universe, it's pretty clear from the second you choose a character and jump into a 5v5 Demolition match that another game has been a much bigger inspiration here: namely, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege.

Digital Foundry | Elden Ring Nightreign: does the new game improve the original's tech issues?
The closed network test examined on all current-gen consoles.
The Elden Ring Nightreign network test proved a surprise success, giving a handful of lucky players an early taster of this multiplayer spin-off on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X/S ahead of the 30th May release. Nightreign's central hook is a compelling, too: a blend of Souls combat and Fortnite-inspired PvE multiplayer with plenty of strategic depth, though the game marks the return of some familiar technical limitations from Elden Ring - including performance issues in both quality and frame-rate modes. Also a surprise is the lack of any PS5 Pro patch update to take advantage of the mid-gen refresh.

Wheel World talk.
Bikes. Pelt them down a hill faster than the speed of sound, brake late, then skid the back wheel round to take a corner and narrowly avoid a poodle out doing its morning ablutions. Weave in and out of the wheelie bins round the back of the garages because you thought it looked cool on Ski Sunday. This is what I hoped for in Wheel World, Messhof's new open-world bike riding adventure/racing game that also happens to be about a ghost bike (Ghost Bike being its original, and probably better, name). The Steam Next Fest demo delivers on bike-feel (that's a term people use, OK!) but I'm left wondering how the supernatural flavour will shine through.
