Black or White best Choose Path for 'It's Not Over Yet' Special Research quest

Black or White - which is the best Choose Path choice for 'It's Not Over Yet in Pokémon Go? Well the answer depends on your current personal needs as the ultimate reward this choice leads to, either a Black Kyurem or a White Kyurem, each has different benefits.

The Black Path leads to Black Kyurem. In battle, Black Kyurem is an excellent counter for any raid boss who is weak to either Dragon and / or Ice-type Pokémon. It happily sits as one of the leaders for both types in the rankings, so you definitely won't go wrong with this decision. If you have access to its Adventure Effect, Freeze Shock, you can find yourself benefiting from a bonus which prevents Pokémon from moving. A handy tool if you have trouble catching those certain Pokémon, like five-star raid bosses.

The White Path leads to White Kyurem. Here you can gain the Ice Burn Adventure Effect, which slows down a Pokémon's target, making it easier to achieve Excellent Throws. Perfect for XP grinding! When it comes to White Kyurem itself, this Pokémon is easily the best Ice-type counter currently available in Pokémon Go. It ranks over Black Kyurem in this regard and is perfect for anyone missing a powerful Ice-type in their team.

As you can see, when it comes to which Pokémon is better, the line is a little blurred. Both Black and White Kyurem are excellent, and powerful, Pokémon. If you're having trouble making your mind up, consider whether you just want a strong Ice-type counter. If your answer is yes, then go with White Kyurem. No? Then Black Kyurem is the way to go.

Matters are a little easier when it comes to the Adventure Effects. Here Ice Burn is the clear standout due to how it makes achieving Excellent Throws easier. Combine this ability with a Lucky Egg while targeting the right Pokémon and you could easily find yourself gathering up an awful lot of XP. Even more if you do so during an event which comes with a Catch XP bonus!

With all of this in mind, your decision comes down to this - do you want a particular powerful Pokémon or a useful Adventure Effect? We recommend taking a look at both our Kyurem Fusion guide and Freeze Shock and Ice Burn Adventure Effect as you may find some extra information crucial to your decision.

Personally, I'll be following the Black path as I really like the idea of using Black Kyurem as both a Dragon and Ice-type counter. Sure White Kyurem does outstrip it in the Ice-type department, but having that additional typing means I can be more flexible in my Pokémon teams.

Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott best Choose Path for 'It's Not Over Yet' Special Research quest

This is a much easier choice than the Black or White path, as all you're really deciding is what Pokémon (and their candy) you'd rather get. Like if you're missing one from your Pokédex (or one of their evolutions), you might want to select that particular Pokémon to fill the entry.

As for the meta ranking of Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott, there's not much to get excited about. However, Samurott (the final evolution of Oshawott) is the best of the three, as it's on the edge of being one of the top 20 Water-types. However, it's expected to drop down further soon.

Tepig. | Image credit: Eurogamer/The Pokémon Company

The next best would be Emboar (the final evolution of Tepig), which is an average Fighting-type due to some helpful Fighting-Type moves.

Serperior, the final evolution of Snivy, is the worst of the bunch. They're very bad in meta ranking, and we don't recommend using them.

You can, of course, also just choose whatever Pokémon you personally prefer, if meta ranking or filling Pokédex entries doesn't matter to you!

How 'It's Not Over Yet' Special Research quest works in Pokémon Go

Every Pokémon Go player will automatically unlock 'It's Not Over Yet' by logging into Pokémon Go during Go Tour: Unova Global. This means you must play Pokémon Go at least once between 10am to 6pm (local time) on Saturday 1st March to Sunday 2nd March.

If you're having trouble unlocking this quest, then we recommend closing and reopening Pokémon Go a number of times. This will force the game to refresh and should cause the quest to reappear. Aside from this, 'It's Not Over Yet' works exactly the same as any other research quest - complete the challenge, collect the rewards and progress through the quest steps until you reach its conclusion.
