Counter-Strike 2 is a team-based multiplayer shooter made by Valve, and is the successor to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The free-to-play FPS had a surprise launch on Steam in September 2023, and is described as the "largest technical leap forward" in CS history.

Based on Valve's Source 2 graphical engine, CS2 features updated versions of classic maps including Dust II, improved lighting and visual effects, plus a brand new ranking system.

For existing players that had already invested a lot of time in CS:GO, any cosmetics purchased for that long-running shooter are automatically carried over to Counter-Strike 2.
